Maxicozy 850 Fill Power Hungarian Goose Down Comforter
Merit Minute:
I started using this duvet (or comforter, I use the term interchangeably) in August 2024. I wanted a light to medium weight goose down duvet. I live in a warmer climate with cold nights. I get uncomfortably warm in summer but equally uncomfortably cold in winter. So let's just say it's been a challenge to find the right bedding!
After using this duvet for a few months I am incredibly happy. I wanted to make sure that my duvet is goose down. Goose down is the soft, fluffy undercoat of the bird, providing great insulation; as opposed to feathers, which are on the back & wings and are stiffer. If you have ever slept with a 'down' blanket and got poked, it's likely that there were too many feathers inside.
When considering a down duvet, read up on its contents, especially if the label says "100% down". I believe the most luxurious duvets contain up to 90% down. Typically other parts are filled with down fiber or feathers. Also typically, the higher the amount of down, the higher the price tag. So understand what you are paying for!
This Maxicozy duvet is 70% down, 25% down fiber and 5% feathers. It is light, soft and fluffs up instantly. I am incredibly happy with this duvet; in fact, spending more money on a higher percentage of down did not feel worth it to me.
The other thing you will often see in description is fill power. Fill power is a measurement of the quality and fluffiness of down insulation in a comforter. The higher the fill power, the better the warmth, loft and durability. This comforter has 850 fill power which is at the top of the range.
This duvet is well sewn, with each pocket fully boxed in, so the down doesn't shift. It is lightweight, but still feels like it gently envelopes me - a feeling that I prefer. It features loops on the edges so that you can secure your duvet cover properly.
I have purchased it in white, and it comes with black piping that gives it a luxurious look.
You can use it with a top sheet or a duvet cover, which is what I have chose to do [see which organic cotton duvet cover I got!]. Two thumbs up so far!
PRO TIP: When you open your package with this comforter, do NOT use a box cutter. You can accidently slice through the comforter.
Also, follow instructions on how to fluff up your new comforter. After a few minutes in the dryer, mine was fluffy and perfect.
